Domestic Violence Shelter Funding

This is my story of how I am dealing with and healing from the effects of domestic violence. I have used poetry and sketches to express my anger and also to reflect on sensations and feelings I experienced while I lived at the shelter or safe house or what I personally referred to as "The House of Pain and Healing.

While there is a growing body of research on the children of battered women, there remains little practical information on the subject of intervention with these at-risk children. This book remedies the situation; providing insight to this varied and complex area, it overviews current practices and strategies and highlights recent innovations in the field. The topics examined by the contributors include: shelters; domestic counselling; child protection services; the criminal justice system; and violence prevention and education in schools and communities.

Women's shelter - A Women's Shelter is a place of temporary refuge and support for women escaping violent situations, such as Rape, and Domestic Violence. Having the ability to leave a situation of violence is valuable for women who are under attack because such situations frequently involve an imbalance of power that limits the woman's financial options.

Emergency shelter - Emergency shelters are places for people to live temporarily when they can't live in their previous residence, similar to homeless shelters. The main difference is that an emergency shelter typically specializes in people fleeing a specific type of situation, such as battered women, victims of domestic violence in general, or victims of sexual abuse.
